Robotics in Gynecologic Surgery
2009 Course Dates

Palo Alto, California

May 11-12

Operative gynecologic laparoscopy has become the accepted modality for treatment of various abdominal and pelvic pathologies. During the past several years, enormous technological advances have taken place to make this procedure practical, safe, and economical. The da Vinci robot has emerged as an enabler to convert more laparotomies to laparoscopies.

Course Overview

Drs. Nezhat, as directors of this workshop, are committed to using state-of-the-art technology to build on the wisdom of the recent past. Since 1982, they have gained extensive experience sharing their knowledge with colleagues from the United States and abroad.

Participants will observe live surgery using the da Vinci with interactive discussion as well as participate in various hands-on laboratory sessions utilizing inanimate models. Didactic sessions offer focused discussion of current trends, overviews of basic principles, and varying topics based on the participants interests and needs.

Educational Objectives

The objective of this workshop is to provide opportunity for instruction and guidance in the field of advanced operative laparoscopy using Robotics. The faculty organizers and sponsors assume no responsibility and cannot guarantee the achievement of any specific skill(s) as a result of completing this course. At the conclusion of this seminar, participants should be able to:

    • Describe robot assisted laparoscopy.
    • List indications and contraindications to robot assisted laparoscopic surgery.
    • Be familiar with operating room set-up and instrumentation essential for da Vinci surgery.
